Lake Calhoun Impromptu Portraits

I took my gear to Lake Calhoun just after sunset last night and asked passersby
if they would be willing to have their picture taken. There were many gracious folks who took me up on the offer.

More Street Portraits

I went down to the corner of Lyndale and Lake the other day to shoot more street portraits.  These were taken on a white background.  They took a bit of post processing to get the background to go completely white but I am very happy with the results.
Rocket came through on her skate board and was a very enthusiastic and capable model.  More shots after the jump:

Clara's Has Ruby Slippers!

My small neighbor Clara was at the shoe store the other day with her mom.  Mom had suggested some light pink shoes and Clara refused them. Clara reached for a pair of lovely ruby slippers instead.  I am sure she would love to show you her wonderful new shoes. Well played Clara! Be bold!

Uptown Street Portraits 5/6/2011

About a week ago I watched this great video on youtube about doing street portraits.  I finally got the courage up to give it a try.  It was a blast!  I look forward to doing more of these.  I taped a piece of black velvet to the wall of a building that gave me some open shade and then I asked whomever passed if they wanted to be photographed.  Of the 9 people I asked only one declined.  That is a way higher success rate than I had planned on.  The guy in the first shot works at Sunrise Cyclery and has a supercool mustache. Oh, if you are in one of these shots please email me I would love to get you the file. More shots after the break.

First Armatage 365 Shoot - Pizzeria Lola

I decided to shoot at Pizzeria Lola for my first shoot.  They have a giant Italian wood fired oven from Italy and a chef that really knows how to use it.  Ann Kim chef and co-owner is certified as a pizzaiola by the International School of Pizza, the only school in the United States affiliated with the Scuola Italiana Pizzaiolo in Italy. Lola opened on November 16th of last year and was an immediate success. It was as if the neighborhood had been dying for a quality pizza place that you could walk to.  Ann and her crew came to the rescue and were rewarded with a full dining room night after night.  My favorite on the menu it the "Sweet Italian".  Give them a try and I am sure you will find your favorite as well. You can find Pizzeria Lola in the Armatage neighborhood on the corner of 55th and Xerxes. More Delicousness after the jump.

Armatage 365 Practice

I am going to be shooting a new project starting on Thursday.  It is called Armatage365.  You can find it at Armatage365.blogspot.com.  I am one of seven photographers that have been chosen to document our neighborhood once a week for a year.  I decided I needed a bit of practice before my first shoot so I took my equipment out in the front yard and rounded up a few neighborhood kids.

Minnesota Design Diaries Part Deux

I did a shoot yesterday for a Minnesota Historical Society program called Minnesota Design Diaries.  The program paired a few kids with a Minnesota Fashion Designer.  The kids learned about fashion design and made a garment.  The end product of the program was a fashion show held at the Old Arizona restaurant and theater.  Each segment of the show featured a piece by the professional designer modeled by a pro model then the kids modeled their own garment.

These shots were done back stage for the make-up artist's portfolio.  More shots of the show tomorrow.

Joseph K is ONE!

I spent a part of today at a park in Golden Valley taking pictures of Joseph K. and his mom and dad, Adrienne and Mike.  We had a lot of fun.  His parents wanted to capture their little guy as he finished his first trip around the sun.  Happy B-day Joseph!

Eliza silhouette

Eliza is almost a year old so I thought it would be a good time to do her silhouette  I am planning on doing this every year to see how she changes over time, or at least as long as she lets me.
